No complicated setup for your guests. Just a quick scan, a choice of walk and off they go.
Scan or tap
Guests scan a QR code on a poster, menu, welcome card or information pack, or tap an NFC plaque with their phone. The walking web app opens straight in their browser.
Add it to the home screen
Guests can add the web app to their phone's home screen if they like. A simple prompt explains how to do it on iPhone and Android.
Walk
Guests follow their chosen route, explore at their own pace and enjoy the local area. The web app is there throughout their stay, even when phone signal isn't.
Your place. Your walks. Your web app.
Your name, logo and colours
Your name, logo, colours and wording take centre stage. This isn't a generic app with somebody else's branding. Each web app is tailored to your business and the experience you want to offer your guests.
Walks for every sort of day
Offer as many routes as you like, from a quick leg-stretcher to a longer ramble. Circular walks, one-way routes, short strolls and step-free options can all have their own map and distance.
Share your local knowledge
Got a fascinating bit of history, a favourite viewpoint or a local legend worth sharing? Send us your notes and photos and we can add them to the guide, complete with links and photo galleries. Or simply offer a map and route, without any extra stops or stories.
Easy for guests to find
We provide a QR code for posters, menus, welcome packs and more, and can supply an NFC plaque for guests to tap with their phones. Both use a short link that can be updated later without reprinting everything.
Simple to keep up to date
A path gets diverted or you discover something new to share? Just let us know and we'll update the guide. Guests get the latest version the next time they open it with an internet connection.
Your own web address
Your web app lives at ewalks.co.uk/your-name, making it easy to share and link to from your website, emails and guest information.
Walk the demo yourself
Try the live eWalks web app on your phone and see how it feels to use it as a guest.
The demo takes you on a walk around the Edge in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. It's a fully mapped and researched route, complete with local information and points of interest, showing what's possible when you bring a walk to life.
Not every walk needs this much detail, though. Some web apps work brilliantly with a simple route and map. Others benefit from a little local storytelling along the way. We'll help you find the right approach for your place.
Open the guide, allow location access if prompted, and you'll be able to see yourself on the map.
FAQs
What does it cost?
Every place and every walking web app is different, so we price each one individually. The cost depends on how many routes you'd like, the size of the area covered and whether you'd like us to help with mapping, research and content.
After an initial setup cost, an annual fee is charged that covers hosting your web app and keeping it online. Tell us a little about your plans and we'll send you a clear quote. Hosting generally costs £120 per year.
What is it, exactly?
It's a branded walking web app that guests open on their phones. They can choose a walk, follow the route on a map and explore the local area at their own pace.
You can add stories, photos and information about places along the way, but you don't have to. Every web app carries your name, logo and colours, giving guests a useful extra that feels like part of their stay.
What is a web app?
A web app is a website that works more like an app on your phone. eWalks uses a type of web app called a Progressive Web App (PWA).
Unlike a traditional app, there's nothing to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Guests simply scan a QR code, tap an NFC plaque or follow a link, and the walking guide opens in their browser. They can then add it to their phone's home screen for easy access, just like an ordinary app.
There are some handy benefits:
- No app-store download. Guests can get started in seconds, without installing anything from an app store.
- Works across devices. One web app can serve guests using iPhones and Android phones, as well as tablets and computers.
- Your branding throughout. The web app is designed around your business, not a third-party walking platform.
- Works offline after the first visit. The guide saves the necessary content, including the map, so guests can use it without phone signal.
- Easy to update. We can update routes and content without asking guests to download a new version from an app store.
A native app, by comparison, is built specifically for a mobile operating system and is usually installed through an app store. Native apps can offer deeper integration with a phone's features, but they also introduce an extra step for guests: finding, downloading and installing the app.
For a walking guide that guests might use for a day or two, a web app makes it much easier to get them out exploring.
Do guests have to download anything?
Nope! There's no app store, no account and no sign-up. Guests scan a QR code, tap an NFC plaque or follow a link, and the guide opens in their browser.
If they like, they can add it to their home screen so it's easy to find again. The web app explains how, in plain English.
Does it work without phone signal?
Yes. Guests need an internet connection the first time they open the web app, so it can save itself to their phone, including the map. After that, it works without a signal.
Handy when the walk takes them beyond the Wi-Fi and out into the countryside.
How do guests find it?
You choose where to share it. Add a QR code to menus, posters, room cards, welcome packs or guest information. Put a link on your website or use an NFC plaque that guests can tap with their phone.
We supply the QR code and can provide an NFC plaque, making it easy to get guests on their way.
Can we offer more than one route?
Absolutely. You might offer a quick stroll before breakfast, a longer countryside walk for the afternoon and a step-free option for those who need it.
Guests choose the walk that suits them. Each route has its own map and distance, and you can add extra information wherever it's useful.
Do all walks need stories and points of interest?
Not at all. A straightforward route with a clear map can be all guests need. If you'd like to share local history, point out a great view or highlight interesting places, we can add that too.
The fully mapped and researched Alderley Edge demo shows what's possible, but your walking web app can be as simple or detailed as you like.
What do we need to give you?
Start with your logo and brand colours, and tell us a little about the walks you'd like to offer. If you already have a route, a map sketch is fine - we can plot it, or supply the GPX file. Photos and local knowledge are welcome if you'd like to include them.
We'll put the web app together for you to check before it goes live.
How long does setup take?
Once we have the information we need, we can get to work on your web app. The timescale depends on the number of routes and how much mapping, research and content you'd like us to handle.
We'll give you a clear timeline when we put together your quote.
Can we change it later?
Of course. Routes change, paths get diverted and sometimes you discover something worth adding. Just let us know what needs updating and we'll make the changes.
Guests get the updated guide the next time they open it with an internet connection.
Does it track our guests?
No accounts, no sign-ups and no tracking of guests' movements by us. If a guest allows location access, their phone uses their location to show where they are on the map. That location isn't sent to us.
Which phones does it work on?
It works on recent iPhones and Android phones with an up-to-date browser, such as Safari or Chrome. It also works on tablets and laptops.
Let's get your guests out exploring
Tell us a little about your place and the walks nearby. Whether you have a favourite local route in mind or need a hand working out what would suit your guests, we'd love to hear from you. A few lines is plenty. We'll come back with any questions and a clear quote.
